The TopGolfer Tour returned to the popular venue of Blainroe Golf Club for an exciting double-header that saw an 18-hole Junior Scratch Cup and a 36-hole Senior Scratch Cup run simultaneously. It’s no surprise that this twin event grabbed the attention of golfers, which created a brilliant occasion for the players and a great atmosphere around the club.

An unfortunate clash of dates with other conflicting events resulted in a reduced field for the Senior Scratch Cup, which was won by Paul Dean from Blainroe GC. An opening round of 80-gross was followed up with a superb 70-gross in tough conditions. Also from Blainroe GC, Colin Woodroofe took 2nd place on a total of 153. John McCarthy from Powerscourt GC took 3rd on 159, and Rory Fahy completed a good day for Blainroe GC members to take 4th place.

The Junior Scratch Cup was won by Patrick Magee from Warrenpoint Golf Club on 75-gross. On 76-gross, 2nd and 3rd places went to a countback. Gerard Synnott from Carton House GC took 2nd and Graham Dunning from Castlewarden GC took 3rd. OOM contenders Michael Kavanagh Jnr (Woodenbridge GC) and Pat Doyle (Glen of the Downs GC) made serious inroads up the leaderboard, with 4th and 5th placed finishes respectively.

A word of special mention is extended to Morgan Pierse from the Grange GC. After returning a 73-gross and being announced as the JSC winner, Morgan contacted the TopGolfer Tour office to disqualify himself as he had shot 74-gross and not the 73-gross that he signed for. As it turns out, his correct score of 74-gross would have been good enough to still claim victory. Golf is a game of integrity, and people like Morgan Pierse are role models for how the game should be played, respected and honoured.

Congrats to Paul and Patrick who both go forward to the TopGolfer Tour PlayOffs at New Forest GC later this year.
