Bunclody Golf & Fishing Club has been a hugely popular venue since its inclusion to the TopGolfer Tour. The excellent Jeff Howes design provides the perfect layout for hosting a top amateur event, which is obviously recognised by the large field of players that turn up each year. The course conditions were perfect, but blustery showers and a firm breeze was always going to test the players.

Victory in the Senior Scratch went to Colin Brennan from Palmerstown House on 72-gross. Adding to his collection of Senior Scratch Cups, the 2 handicap golfer now goes forward to the TopGolfer PlayOffs at New Forest later this year.

Runner up was local favourite Rory McCarthy from Bunclody GC. The 1 handicapper golfer also shot a superb 72-gross, only to miss out on a countback. 3rd Place was Des Morgan (+2) from Mullingar GC; 4th Place was Conor O’Rourke (+1) from Naas GC, and 5th place went to Anthony Montgomery (2) from The Island GC.

The Junior Scratch was won by Stephen Finlan (PICTURED IN PHOTO), coincidentally from Palmerstown House GC. Playing off 5 handicap, Stephen has been one of the most consistent players across the last 2-years, winning and successfully defending the TopGolfer Order of Merit in 2012 & 2013. A regular top 10 finisher in Junior Scratch Cups nationwide, he has always catapulted himself to the top. But his arduous mission to win a Junior Scratch Trophy has, until now, eluded him. Many congrats to Stephen who now comes off the Order of Merit leaderboard and has secured a place at The TopGolfer Tour Championships at Portmarnock Links later this year.

Runner up on the day was Danny Hutton (6) from Carlow GC. Also shooting a superb gross of 76, Danny was pipped by a back 9 countback. 3rd Place was Padraig Doyle (5) from Coollattin GC, 4th Place was Paul O’Hanlon from Elm Park GC, and 5th Place went to Glynne Butler from Coollattin GC.
