The global appeal of PowerPlay Golf, and the growing appetite for golf’s exciting new format, was confirmed this week as major broadcasters around the world announced they will show PowerPlay Golf driven by Saab: IGNITION live or ‘as live’.

With the inaugural professional PowerPlay event taking place at The Celtic Manor Resort, Wales at 1700 (BST) on 30th May, excitement is growing with the prospect of golf reaching a new audience around the world in an action-packed 3-hour event.

In addition to a live broadcast on Sky Sports 3 in the UK, PowerPlay Golf driven by Saab: IGNITION will reach over 130 million homes in more than 30 countries around the world. Broadcast partners include The Golf Channel (US/Canada), Fox Sports (Australia), CCTV (China), JBC (Korea), OSN (Middle East), Viasat Golf(Sweden) and Sport 1 (Germany).

Irish & UK Schedule: Live coverage on Sky Sports 3 17.00-20.00 BST

The event will also be live-streamed on the PowerPlay Golf website around the world (www.powerplay-golf.com) - in the UK, viewers will see it online with a one-hour delay.

In IGNITION this Monday, leading Tour golf superstars such as Graeme McDowell, Ian Poulter, Gary Player, Ian Woosnam, Paula Creamer, John Daly and Paul Casey will compete in the exciting new short-form of the game which will captivate all TV sports fans.

Played over nine holes, with two flags on every green, golfers use a limited number of ‘PowerPlays’ to score extra points when aiming at the harder Black Flag, creating exciting risk-and-reward decisions on each tee.

With play in four groups of three, each group will its own dedicated commentary team, passing expert opinion on the unique high-pressure decisions which the PowerPlay format creates. The team of respected golf commentators will be led by presenter Dominic Holyer and will include familiar faces like Dianna Dougherty, Dale Hayes, Richard Boxall and Jay Townsend.

Recent Independent research¹ revealed that 71% of golfers surveyed would watch a professional golf event on TV that was completed in 3 hours and support for a shorter format of the game increased to 84% amongst 16-24 year olds. The global take-up of the live TV coverage of the inaugural event should satisfy that demand and ensure a huge global audience for PowerPlay Golf.

About PowerPlay Golf (www.powerplay-golf.com)
PowerPlay Golf® is a 9-hole golfing format in which golfers choose to aim for one of two flags on the green – a White Flag and a Black (‘PowerPlay’) Flag. The format is ideal for TV, enabling broadcasters to televise a complete golf tournament in less than three hours, and to increase golfing TV audiences. In the game, golfers have limited PowerPlays, and score extra points for net birdie or better when playing to the Black Flag, thereby creating extra pressure.

Golf clubs become PowerPlay Golf® Official Venues by registering on the PowerPlay Golf® website - http://www.powerplay-golf.com/become-a-venue/ whereupon they are sent a Club Pack containing PowerPlay Golf® flags and other branded materials. CONTACT: [email protected].
