Team Cohalan Murphy Secure Citizen Winter Series

It was always going to take a fantastic effort at The K Club on Sunday to snatch the first TopGolfer Citizen Winter Pairs Series title away from Keith Cohalan and Donal Murphy. The Killeen team who had won Event 2 of the series at the Heritage and finished as runners up in Event 4 at Rosslare, could only be beaten by one of the other series winners.

That meant heading into this final series event, there were just 3 other teams who were in with a chance of securing the series on the day, but all needed to win to take all the spoils.

A win would have given the title to Frank Duffy and Liam Canning who had won event 3 at The K Club. A win would also have been enough for Paraic Conolly and David Cameron winners of the first K Club event, and the 4th team in the mix for an outright win were Ciaran Frost and Ian Lynch who had taken the 500 points for coming top of the pile in Event 4 at Rosslare.

There were also 3 other teams for whom a win added to their previous runner-up spots, could be in with a chance of forcing a play-off for the series title, but again only a win at The K Club would be good enough for Brendan McDonnell and Pat Russell, Lar Ryan and James Farrell, and Maurice May and Ian Fitzgerald.

So the scene was set with numerous teams jostling for the title or at the very least some nice prizes from our partners at Citizen and The K Club.

As it happened, Keith and Donal rouse to the occasion brilliantly. They were beaten into second place on the final day by Ewan Randall and David Carroll who shot an incredible 61, but the Cohalan Murphy score of 64 gave them second place on their own and clinched the series win in style. For their efforts they will be presented with 2 Citizen World Perpetual A-T (Titanium Version) Watches valued at €475 each.

Series Runners-up were Maurice May and Ian Fitzgerald (Team Leeds) who had a Series score of 970 points which they secured by finishing runners-up in event 3 and finishing 3rd in event 5. The two men will be presented with 2 Citizen Calibre 8700 Watches valued at €370 each.

Third place in the series went to Taffy’s Team – Lar Ryan and James Farrell. Their series total of 940 points was built on a runners-up spot in event 2 at The Heritage and a sixth place at Event 3 in The K Club. Lar and James will be presented with 2 4-ball vouchers for the Ryder Cup Course at The K Club.

We’d really like to thank all 125 teams who competed over the winter – your support and cheer got us through the quiet winter months. We’d also like to thank our partners at The K Club, the Heritage and Rosslare Golf Links for working with us on the events, we couldn’t have done any of it without them. Finally a big thank you to CITIZEN for their support with the series, their fantastic prizes have been hard earned and will be worn with pride we’re sure.
