THE 2016 RACE TO SLIEVE RUSSELL

Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club is confirmed to host the TopGolfer Tour Championship Finals 2016.

The TopGolfer Tour recently announced Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club as the venue for its 2-day Tour Championship Finals 2016. Having previously hosted Tour Championships at Carton House (2010), Druids Glen (2011), Fota Island (2012), The Heritage (2013), Portmarnock Links (2015), Mt. Juliet (2016), the Co. Cavan resort will continue a trend of using top Irish golf resorts to host a national finals.

The Slieve Russell Hotel, Golf & Country Club is widely regarded as one of the premier hotel and resort complexes in Ireland, based on its opulent surroundings, congenial atmosphere, friendly staff and superb cuisine. It has become a regular venue for major national and international conferences, major golf tournaments and of course, family breaks and special occasions.

The facilities include a top quality four-star hotel, with 222 stylish bedrooms, a world-class spa – the Ciuin Spa and Wellness Centre – excellent conference and banqueting facilities, along with a magnificent leisure centre.

Golf groups also delight in having a twenty-metre swimming pool, incorporating a therapeutic whirlpool and massage seats, Jacuzzi, steam room, sauna and many other leisure facilities, all under one roof.

The Slieve Russell Golf Club has hosted some major Irish PGA tournaments. These include The Smurfit Irish PGA Championship in 1996 and also the Quinn Direct PGA Charity Pro Am, which has been held there since 1997. Both tournaments had many of the top Irish European tour cardholders participating in them. The Slieve Russell also played host to a European Tour Event – North West of Ireland Open in August 2000 and 2001.

The challenging golf course is complemented by a state-of-the-art teaching academy and par-3 golf course.Visiting golfers can enjoy the luxurious surroundings of the golf clubhouse including a wide selection of golf equipment and clothes in the Pro Shop, a 5 bay flood-lit driving range, baggage storage area, comfortable locker rooms with shower areas, golf lessons with resident PGA Professionals or simply relax and enjoy the panoramic views from the Summit Bar and Restaurant.

Of the 4,000+ expected competitors on the 2016 Tour, only 1-player has already confirmed his place at the 2016 Finals – Mr. Larry Ryan from Rathdowney GC, who stormed to victory at Mount Juliet in October 2015, will get the chance to defend his title from 2015.

Its Championship course has proven itself time and time again and we’re really excited to see how top amateur golfers will handle the challenge that will be served up next October.”
